It's my understanding from reading the boards over at Sci-Fi that the reason Moore had Adama shot was because he wasn't sure Olmos would be on board for a second season and needed a way to write him out of the show.
I don't know if there is any truth to it, but I found it interesting.
After watching a Battlestar marathon of the old series (I know, why bother, right?) and reading some of the threads about the older series, I'm particularly interested in who is going to show up in the new season of the new show.
