I don't think it should be taken so personally. It's just a comment, afterall, from a bunch of male co-workers. I know as a guy myself, I prefer to and usually do take most things at face value. At my old workplace there was this girl with whom I'd always exchange views on what looked attractive and what didn't on the opposite sex, she told me a few things about what I should do with my appearance and I even made a few comments myself and we got along very well because neither of us took it as to mean "you are ugly the way you look with (x)". We never even changed our appearances after what we'd told each other.
