Sometimes it's amazing how astute people can be when they have absolutely no info to go on. You get the super sleuth award for the day!
Oh- and as for the "double standard", it's more difficult to determine if it's really all that bad when you're comparing "rednecks" to "blacks"... black people being the ones that have been slaves and tortured for a good part of our human history, and that spirit of bigotry and hatred still lives on in some people, despite the best efforts of those with brains in their heads.
Exactly what cultural or heritage-based grievances do "rednecks" have with the world? Earnhardt not given a sainthood after he died?
To sum up: it was part of back-and-forth banter, not a random shot. Also, it was obviously not said in anything other than a lighthearted tone. THere is a big difference where intent stands.
