I still don't know what so many people liked about VII. Yes, it was a great game. But it paled next to VI for SNES. VI took six and a half years to produce, and the game shows it in every way. I've played it through a dozen times, and I'm sure I will, a dozen more.
When polygons were intoduced to console systems, the industry as a whole took on the mentality that graphics were trump to superior game play. VIII showed this, I still can't believe how atrocious the game play was.
As for the new FFs, I'd have to say IX is my favourite. they got back to the their roots, and oh my god, the characters wear armour. This is unheard of in RPGs, oh wait...
I could go on for hours. FF is a passion. : )
