Well.... um, I definitly wasn't expecting that. Greenday is not my (and I would suppose most others') idea of atmospheric music, but to each his own, right?

Anyway, over at the Opeth forum thread, there was a post by someone who had recorded an album designed for this sort of thing, called "Passion Immortal." Here's his pitch for it, which was actually posted on the Coheed and Cambria forums (horray for google!):

Quote:
Human existence is treachery. We carry a disease that directs self-fulfillment over all other action, but this evil cannot be defeated; for as the demon dies, so does the passion. We must learn to suffer in order to truly love, and we must feel fear to experience comfort. Without darkness, there can be no light, and with no light, there can be no purpose. The passion is immortal, the beauty of this great tragedy shines eternally, and in those moments we reside in solitude and darkness, nothing will be clearer. We are dying of love; this is our divine gift.

This is the project i've been working on for the last 6 months. If any of you kept up with this, you know it's something designed for those times when you can be alone with your thoughts, when you are all alone at night in complete darkness. It's music, which if you download, you are to burn to 2 CD's... DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS ON YOUR PC. This is somewhat the equivalent of music for meditation, only it's a little more active than that. What makes the music work is not what is in the file, it's what you've already got in your head waiting to come out. The music is the catalyst by which you bring forth those thoughts you've been hiding away because they are too uncomfortable to deal with. If you have those feelings inside you, this music will be there to bring it out and consolidate it. If you do not, you will feel nothing. The only way this will work though is if you completely isolate yourself from everything, from all outside noise, from all outide light. Play it as loud as you can, and listen through the whole thing. If you are not going to listen to it properly, i don't want you to listen to it, as it will ruin everything.
For those of you who may have passed up the link to the download, it's here: http://www.bumblelovesmusic.com/musi...onImmortal.rar

I have yet to listen to it, and the guy comes off as a bit of a pseudo-intellectual dumbass, but the people that have listened to it ("properly?") have given it great reviews, saying that it conjured up all kinds of images and emotions, even long forgotten childhood fears. This definitly smells of bullshit to me, but as I said -- I have yet to listen to it. It might be great, for all I know.

Anyway, I hope this thread goes further than most of the others that I start up here. Keep posting, people (person)!
