i don't know how things work in new zealand, but here's what i'd do if it were me...
since the phone looks like its still functional (meaning you can make and recieve calls), i'd call your cell phone service provider and sign up for insurance if you don't have it already. then in a week or so, call and make a claim on it... they'll ask you what's wrong and some other questions, then they'll send you a new phone. here they charge you a $50 deductable per replacement, but i think it would be very much worth it b/c it's obviously less than the repair fee and you get a NEW phone. hope this works for you.
