I live in Northeastern Arkansas.
I'm 20 minutes from the lake, I'm 20 minutes from some beautiful hills and hiking trails. Right now, I live in town, but before that I usually lived on the outskirts, where it wasn't all that unusual to see a wild animals making way across your yard.
The town is large enough to support a number of "box stores" (Wal*Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc....) and dozens of different places to eat, yet small enough to still have that hometown feel. I go to the library, vote or pay my bills and they call me by name before I even set my information in front of them.
We've got a pretty good sized two-year college and, what I think is, a pretty good school system. Even now, inside the city, which is all of 20,000, I believe, you can still find people to help you out when you need it (thanks to the large volunteer community) and your neighbors still stop by to chat when they catch you raking your leaves or mowing your grass.
I've had my doubts about the area, but just the other day the guy next door seen me working on my mother's car and stopped to ask if I needed any help. It ended up going to the shop, where the mechanic replaced the battery cables. He charged her only for the parts and sent her on her way.
I think that's what a community is supposed to be and that's why I love living here.
