Maybe a few times in the few months I've been playing, like the AH taking forever to respond sometimes as well as the authentication server being down for 15 mins max.
Other than that, I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about.

Our server has over 30,000 players. Sometimes at night, there's a 1-2 second lag on everything you do. It's rare to be world-wide, but last night it was definitely happening. The AH also lags to hell at night. Other than those two issues, there's nothing to complain about.
Of course, when many people say "lag" they refer to video lag in IF caused by their computers not being up to par. There is a difference between connection lag and video lag and most people do not know the difference. They say that IF lags too much and that they're going at 3 FPS and that Blizzard really needs to fix their servers so it won't do it. Not true, the 3 FPS is caused by your videocard and RAM. The AH lag is Blizzard's part, however.
I do agree with the IF video lag. I have a 6800 GT, Barton 2500+ CPU, and 768 MB of RAM. My PC runs at 20-35 FPS in IF...everywhere else in the world it runs at 50-60 FPS. I know it's because of the massive character amounts. Fine, find a way for our PCs to load them faster! Damn. When I log into IF, my PC also locks up for a few seconds two or three times before IF is fully loaded with all the players. This is another issue that needs to be fixed. WoW loads characters in a really inefficient manner if it's causing a top of the line videocard with 768 MB of system RAM to go at 0 FPS until it "loads" for 15 seconds.
