A 12 point loss makes it necessary for them to deserve a 1 or 2 seed in the NIT. End of story. Potential and toughness of schedule is one thing but the results of a NCAA tournament win a couple of years ago is an entirely different animal. Once you step up to the plate and let the world know you're ready to compete and get targeted everyday, like Duke has for the last 15 years, necessitates your club to keep up that level of competitiveness if they want to be considered a national powerhouse. MD has failed to hold up to their end of the bargain and have shown that it's a VERY difficult thing to sustain that level of success. The Terps could have and should have made the dance if they did as they could and should have done.... win more consistently against other clubs besides Duke. I don't want this to come off as a I hate MD thing because that's not the case at all. I love MD. My 5 year old has nothing but Terp stuff that he wears and exibits on his bed as huge pillows. I know I'm an outlier in the MD/DC/Nation as a card carrying Duke fan. I initially loved Hurley and Laettner, the Hills and Davis; et al. I now love to follow the program for it's incredible coach and the way he carries himself, leads his program, and expounds the virtues of the college game. The program also exists in one of the 10 most academically challenging universities in the country. I think it's a program, coach, and player set that for the most part, is one derserving of the "role model" tag. I know success breeds recruitment and thus success; however Duke has lately been hit by the same "leave early" contagion that all the institutions in the country have been dealing with for years. Through it all they still seem to perservere by holding up their end of the bargain as a perenial contender. MD will be fine next year and moving forward, will be even better. They will gain their consistency and WILL build a dynasty with a coach the caliber of Gary Willaims. I want every Duke hater to really try to internalize my perspective as a MD homeboy who loves the Terps but puts the Durham Dreg ever so slightly above the home team. There is a method behind the "madness". Djtestudo, I hope you read this because I truly respect the insight you bring to this SPORTS forum and would really enjoy your feedback as well as any others who would like to comment.
