As far as the bottom line goes, safety = money!
If an airline gets a reputation for not being safe, their passengers will find other ways to get to their reputation. Revenue will suffer, ergo, the bottom line.
I fly between the Midwest and Northeast (US) weekly. If there were EVER an incident that I believed compromised my safety, I would
never fly that airline again. Period.
