I might be grossed out too, but realistically, how many gallons of your friends' and neighbors' sewage go into the ocean a day?
Keeping that number in mind, how many gallons of salt water are in the ocean at any given time (then again, how much of that "water" is actually excrement of various sealife)?
My point is that your city's sewage is probably heavily diluted before it even reaches your toes on the beach (unless, of course, you're playing around in the direct flow of the sewage).
