This is a little off topic, but i think it plays in with the "simulation" theory.
A sub heading to all of this is the idea of free will. Do we really have free will/free choice? Physicists will say no, because quantum theory states everything is not free nor is deterministic. Rather, everything is probabilistic.
We see a solution/route that we perceive as a way out, but even that route contains more roots of control. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the solution itself may be a means of control, and that’s where I am placing my bets on the plot of the movie.
Free will as we know it may only be a low level manifestation of another "fake reality”, and as mentioned above, it really does not matter because we can not ever know the real reality.
