I have heard of some women really enjoying girl-on-top positions, but it doesn't seem to work for us that well. As a man, I enjoy it since it gives me a great view and my hands free to explore. Plus I enjoy giving up control since I am usually the one dictating the pace, depth, etc. My wife finds girl-on-top to be tiring and not very stimulating for her, so we don't get around to it all that often.
If it is something that you want to improve, practice. I am sure that he isn't going to mind you working on getting better at it and maybe you'll have a breakthrough. Something like, "Oh, so that's how you do it!"
