Yes, I'm sure that some people could come up with new styles that are really good. What I meant was that copies of old styles aren't necessarily bad.

I wonder how much of the music nostalgia is just related to us picking out the best songs over so many decades? Maybe there was always a lot of crap, but people only remember the good stuff. I'm not old enough to know.

More to your point, I think that the vast majority of cars, etc. are not retro. Designers are trying to produce new styles. Most new designs flop, so I imagine it's pretty tempting to steal "proven" concepts from the past.
