Oh, was Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 re-released for X-Box?
Well, the strategy I remember from RCT1/2 is to make sure you have 1 mechanic per ride, and 1 mechanic per ride only. Give them a walkable area (can't think of the term, sorry) that only covers the exit of the ride. This way, when the ride breaks down, the mechanic is right there. And he's also right there to keep up maintainance.
Sounds like you already did this, though.
