I hope he doesn't have any problems with the new one.
As for the overheating, that's actually quite decent for an Athlon XP CPU. They tend to run hot. My Athlon XP 3200+ is water cooled, and it gets up to around 110 degrees under full load. When I had my 2200+ with 5 80mm case fans, a 120mm and 80mm in the PSU, and a Thermaltake Volcano 11 heatsink with a noisy 80mm fan I never got a temp lower than 55C under full load in an air conditioned room. Most of the time it ran about 60C when gaming. It sounded like a jet engine was in my dorm room, but still had high temps.
