I was always under the impression that Rafer Alston's struggle in the NBA was attributed to his popularity as Skip To Mah Lou in the And1 Mixtapes. I figured that coaches were wary of playing him because they were afraid that his overall game was too "street." Anyone remember when the Kings benched Jason Williams for the same reason? I think Alston's contract was well deserved.
As for the whole Vince Carter/Alonzo Mourning trade, it looked great on paper. Lose an All-Star that hates your organization, and get an out-of-retirement miracle former All-Star that plays big. Zo's reaction to his placement in Toronto was a complete surprise to me, and I can't believe how well he's faring by goinga long with his hissy-fit. Not only is Toronto paying him to leave, but he also gets to join up with the #1 team in the East. He shouldn't be able to play for another team for at least the remainder of this season.
I'm excited to see Carter on a new team. My boy Richard Jefferson might be losing minutes, but if they can work together when he comes out of his season-ending injury, they might be able to produce something newsworthy.
