I just noticed this phrase " She thought they were burglars or some neighbors she had tangled with in the past, she said."
Neighbors she'd tangled with? Was she living in a bad neighborhood or just didn't have a good relationship with her neighbors? Was she pissy with her other neighbors? Makes one wonder why she thought this.
Oh and "A kitchen light was on at Young's home." so there's no reason for them to have suspected that everyone was in bed.
