yeah, that's why i specifically mentioned tv/vcr combos. i've had more than a few universal remotes and most won't work with it. i'm not sure whether my learning one will even work, because it seems like i have to have a base code that will talk to my particular brand/device and then the learning part of it is for it to store specific functions from the device's original remote. i haven't tried the learning remote on any of our tv/vcr combos, but i'll give it a go and let you know how it worked out.
