All of the portents are there if you read the last three books back to back so that you can pick up on all of the pieces. The affair with the illuminator introduced him to black powder(or some approximation thereof). She already knows what she wants to do with it, and Matrim will use his combined memories to find a way to use fireworks and a 'Bell Maker' to come up with this world's first Artillery.

I've been telling people for years Mat's "to give up half the light of the world to save the world" would mean him using illuminators. He's figuring black powder out, remember in The Dragon Reborn he blew away some of the Stone just experimenting. I think he will indeed lead the main army at Tarmon Gaiden. after all, nobody can out strategize mat due to his past lives.
Rand is working on a truce with the Seanchan, something he should had done around book 8's period. The Senchan are a pain in the ass, but not evil.... very... misguided. They will eventually, through Mat, bow to Rand. besides, they have prophecies for the Dragon Reborn, too. and also remember the Senchan take real good care of civilians as long as they swear fealty. the crime and what not rates have drasticly
lowered since the last evasion began.

Considering that One-Power Wielders have been almost completely bred out on their side of the pond, it's really the only way for Rand to defeat an army of Damane.
Either which way, it means we will see a lot of Mat in the coming books.

The damane indeed pose a very heavy threat, especially since people hesitate to kill them due to them being slaves. they have no choice.. I have a feeling when Rand tries to truce them, they will give over. if not, this would be ideal timing for Egwene to pull the WT back togetherr and join the BT, thus supporting Rand, thus pretty much controlling all men.
Saldea, Far Malken (sorry for all the mispellings), so on.. all the northern countries will most like bow to Rand in book 11, maybe 12.
now he'll have....... tear, illian, gheldean soon if he can root Asnowa out, Camelyn and Caihraihan will join him. he can now go to tomad head and take those lands also. the only real threat are the fucking Shaido. oh, and Taim.

I was depressed when I finished the most recent book and realized that nothing had really been accomplished. Moreso when I realized that in fact the last two books have been the same sort of buildup. I became near-suicidal when the thought struck me that I would have to wait another two years for the next book...

nothing accomplished since book 9? are you mad?????
he killed his major trators while figuring a way to cleanse the source, mat meets his woman and is setting blocks for a massive move, perrin is working on the Prophet (who i've decided isa darkfriend). Faile, though a bitch, is a good person and she'll lead Perrin where he must go after she is recovered.
in book ten (i'm half way through it for the second time) it is definatly more of a building block for the next books, i agree. but the Aes Sedia an d BT soap operas are filling out very well. and the Forsaken are being set straight.

But then I realized that the more buildup his books have, the more amazing the conclusion will be. And with that realization, all was well with the world again.
