Its called FOD "Foregin Object Damage" and just about any jet engine will succumb to this. Its one of the reasons why birds near runways are a major problem. In fact last year at the airshow near here, they had the Marine Harriers in, on person was assigned to each plane just to clear the tires after they landed, of any foregin debris so it didn't get sucked into the engines.
What do you think took down the Concorde? A small piece of metal sucked into one of the engines during takeoff!
