When I was 16, I pulled into a convenience store parking lot in Lexington, KY and saw a round piece of brass on the pavement. When I picked it up and flipped it over I found out it was a Rolls Royce key fob.
It took me another 16 years or so to
finally call the R.R. owner's club of America to search for the owner of the car (I figured they'd have a listing of cars by chassis #). The woman on the phone tracked the chassis number and said the car's last owner was a man in Cincinnati, OH but he had taken the car to auction some 10 years ago and the new owner never registered with the club. I was offered the auction house's phone number to continue my search but didn't think it was worth that much effort.
It's been a number of years, but I remember the lady on the phone told me that the car was a late 1920's model Rolls that was actually made here in America. I'm thinking maybe the chassis and drivetrain were made in England and a coach builder here in the U.S. made the body for it.
Anyway, a neat story and, as you can see, I still carry it on my keychain.
