In our previous apartment, we had some pain in the butt neighbors next to us. They were young newlyweds who shared (unbeknownst to us) their apartment with her mother. One morning, hubby and I kept hearing strange noises coming from their apartment. We figured either someone had broken in or the woman was sick/hurt and needed help. Hubby broke into their apartment only to find the mother having a panic attack on the floor. We called 911 and the medics acted like it was nothing; apparently this was a common occurence. This explained an odd knock on the door from the police we had about a month previous to this incident. They knocked on our door and asked if we knew our neighbors because someone from that household had called 911 but no one was answering the door. We knew they were both at work and had no idea about the mother, so we had no idea what was going on. The cops also were called in for domestic disturbances to the same apartment several times before they moved out. We hoped for better neighbors when they left, but we weren't that fortunate. Our new neighbors were a woman, her mom, and the womans 4 year old son. The kid would just walk into our house at will; his grandmother supposedly watched him during the day but she didn't do a good job of it. One time he was at our house for 45 minutes before she woke up and noticed he was gone; a knock at the door went unnoticed. He was terribly undisciplined and always filthy; my son picked up the great phrase "that's MINE!!" from this kid. I had to keep the door locked at all times so he wouldn't just wander in.
