I was in the Navy from 68 to 72. The recruiter didn't lie to me. I went to Boot Camp like he said. Not much else went the way he said, tho.
Times now are different. Choose your rating carefully. Make sure it is what type of service you really care for. And make them stick to what is in your contract.
