I think SF need a running back first of all, Kevan Barlow had the lowest yards per carry in the NFL for a starting tailback. Their QBs are young and therefore can only get better (right?!!), with their salary cap room they can get some help at guard and tackle, which will help the QBs get settled.

If they do get Alex Smith, or that other fellow it will be the same type of situation as with Eli in New York, a crappy o-line and a rookie QB do not mix. But at least NY had some sort of stable running game.

I think SF should get Benson, and keep Barlow as a power/short yardage guy, meanwhile next season they can draft a QB, because they will still be rebuilding. And if they trade up (or lose lots of games) they can get Matt Leinart after all.
