Can someone help me out here? This better not be a glitch

I've already got Ashley and I am at the farm. You know when you first enter the farm and you tell her to hide in the dumpster? Well, I told her to hide, I killed all the enemies, and now when I go back to get her, I can't open the dumpster or anything. The action button doesn't even show up.
Any clues?
