Know what I think? He did this on a dare from his buddies. Once he had done it, he was in excruciating pain, but he realized that his wife would have his balls for being such an idiot. So, he toughs it out for a couple of days trying to think of a really good excuse. Once he realizes that there is, in fact, no good excuse, he is forced to go to the dentist where his wife works and pray that they don't laugh and make a national story out his stupidity.
