On the A/V switch-what exactly are you wanting from it? How many systems are you going to hook up? Is it a must for you to have a remote? You can find these in all shapes and sizes, but if you want good functionality and remote switching, and need a small number of switches (3-4), you're better off buying a reciever if you've got the money. Considering everything else you benefit from with that option, the dedicated switch boxes are horribly overpriced.
(keep in mind that many older systems that you won't be using s/component video on can probably be strung together into one switch controller, where the one that's currently on sends the signal through, with little to no degradation)
