This part from the link you provided would be VERY comforting to me:
If an early ultrasound (between 12 and 14 weeks) shows the placenta near, or covering the cervix, don't be alarmed — it is most likely not placenta previa. As the uterus grows, it naturally pulls the placenta away from the cervix; in these cases, medical intervention generally isn't necessary.
Also, from my own recent experiences with all kinds of wildly incorrect predictions and scary foreshadowing, those OB/GYNs do everything they can to make you aware and acutely nervous about every single possible problem which might in even the slightest way possible surface as a pregancy or gestation progresses.
Take everything with a grain of salt. Most of the time it turns out to be nothing, and the added burden's of this knowledge only make a difficult time (pregancy) even more difficult.
Sit back, take a chill, love your wife and prepare for the birth of a beautiful healthy baby. You only need to deal with problems when they exist as far as I'm concerned.
I've got a little journal/thread I've been updating in this forum that might give you a little perspective on everything. We were anticipating entirely different issues then the one's we actually had to deal with.
Hope this helps,
-bear
