I don’t see why people seem surprised that some, if not most drivers take advantage of others. Driving a car is an integral part of people’s lives in the society. Some people have a tendency to take an advantage of others, to always be ahead, to ignore the needs of their colleagues, or to simply break the law, whenever the possible outcome is good for them, not caring about how it might affect others. These very same rules govern people’s behavior in their cars. It’s just the way people are. While not all of us are exploiting jerks, most people are, and driving a car gives and endless possibility to see examples of just that. I’m not sure how one can root out shit behavior like that, but I’m think it’d take hundreds of years of work towards changing the human nature in the first place.
