I'll be on the veranda, since you're on the cross.

1. What do people usually use their pocket knife for?
2. Do people experience awkwardness or diffuclty "wearing" or carrying around their knife? I used to carry mine but found it a bit heavy in my pocket. I prefer to travel light. Plus all the metal detectors and other problems these days.

As for self defense, what ever happened to the simple switchblade or butterfly knife? Actually, I find that in this day in age, it's probably better (if you can get the proper permit) to carry a handgun.

Thanks for your patience in answering a novice question.
1. Usually for small tasks such as opening letters, cutting twine, plastic bags, etc. I've found while they are not necessarily something you'll use all the time, if I don't have it with me I'll end up needing it.

2. I don't, but I'm used to it and wear a knife with a pocket clip most of the time. If I'm going to be around metal detectors, I lock it in the glovebox. If you're traveling, you shouldn't have a problem as long as you put it in checked baggage, not carryon.

Switchblades are illegal in a lot of places, as are butterfly knives. The coolness factor of carrying one has died out to the coolness factor of "thugs with glocks."
