The previous idea about clearing the pagefile & minidump, didn't work.
After it didn't work, I decided to remove one stick of memory, and I then started windows, started windows media player, and played some music, ran bsplayer and had it run a movie, started quicktime, and had it doing something else. After 5 min. I got a stop code: Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area 0x50, I looked it up, and found out that the error had to do with the memory. So then turned everything off, and removed that memory and replaced with the other. Restarted windows, reran all the applications like I did before, and after 5 min. I got a different error code: Driver_Irql_Not_Less_Or_Equal 0xD1, then restarted, and windows wouldn't start up instead I got a new error Stop code 0x8E.
I then ran memtest, because I couldn't believe that both memory modules were screwed up, but I couldn't figure out what I was looking at, I just saw some numbers wizzing by real fast, after a long time of waiting and for the most part being impatient, I stopped test 2 from finishing since it was just sitting there at 4% forever, and checked the results, I noticed that some tests were marked failed.
I then decided to attempt to format and reinstall xp, but was unable to since it would crash during the format process. So in the end I just replaced the memory, and did a reformat and reinstalled xp for good measure, and now it's working.
For the laptop, I just reformatted and reinstalled windows, and the problem went away, I didn't even have to change the memory, which is kind of unsettling, because it makes me wonder why I got the same mindump error in the first place.
Anyhow everything works, and thanks for everyone's help.
