balanitis?
It's not supposed to be particularly serious (I'm no doctor), but I'd get as much information as I can (a few Google searches) to help put into perspective any worries you might have and then if you decide to go to the doctor, you'll be able to have a more informed, more worthwhile and less embarrasing conversation.
