I'm not sure where you're coming from on the warranty issue. All the stuff in a homebrew PC has warranties. If the vidcard is DOA, it's under warranty and will get replaced. Plus you can buy the good brands rather than using the whatever's-cheapest approach the prebuilt companies use.
Now, where you might have a point is in the poorly built homebrew - a case with a bad (or no) cooling scheme, etc or in the improperly overclocked homebrew, but if it's built right, I'll stack it up against a prebuilt any day of the week.
