my apartment also has a netgear wireless router, had to buy a 5.8ghz cordless phone to get around the interference it caused in tight quarters near the router.

I bought a 5.8 ghz phone for the same reason. I have a friend who was always talking on speakerphone with a 2.4 ghz phone and it caused the most hideous ping sounding staticy noises on his end. So I made sure to buy a 5.8 phone.
