I honestly have to say that I love the snow. I don't enjoy the intense cold we've gotten this week. A constant 10-20 below is a bit cold. It's starting to warm up again. Only 1 degree F right now. Not below zero. That's more bearable.

As for snow. I can find lots of things to do in it. love when it's just slightly slippery and I can do the run and skid thing. I did that through the Walmart parking lot to get to my car on Mon this past week. Maybe people thought I was nuts. I figured - hey I'm slipping and sliding anyway so I'll just make it a controlled slide and have fun with it.

I enjoy cross country skiing, skating (my favorite), making snow men, snowball fights, making quinsies (a different version of the igloo), and the candle light ski-walks that our local state park holds about 4 or 5 times a year.

It's awesome. Get a park sticker and you can go, walk through the dark woods with only candles to light your way. Others walking along the trail in the dark that sometimes keep to themselves or join you to chat along the way. At the end of the trail is a large log shelter with huge fireplaces and roaring fires, hot chocolate and hot dogs to eat before heading back on the trail to your cars. Not something you can enjoy quite so much without the snow and chill.

Did you know that an igloo or quinsy with a 1 foot thick wall can maintain a temperature of about 40 inside, sometimes even warmer??

I love to make snow cream (a version of icecream that my Alaskan relatives shared with us). Made with eggs, cream, vanilla, and sugar and lots of clean white snow. Mmmmm - goes great with pound cake. DEFINATELY NOT diet food.

I love making molasses candy. If you've read "Little House in the Woods" you might remember it.

I can think of so many good things about winter.

Besides can you think of a better excuse for snuggling up inside with your sweetheart and shutting off the outside world for just a little while.

That all said I do get a bit of cabin fever during January. I think it makes me appreciate the rain in spring and the warm days in summer that much more.

BTW Dawson and Co just couldn't resist calling while we were in the low negative temps this week. They just had to tell us about their 70 temps and going to the beach.

Every season and climate has it good points I think.
