They do this in "The Sims".
I have seen it before, they will laugh and you get points. Sometimes though, they will burst out crying at your puppet.
I used to joke with my roommate, pretending I had a puppet, and then he would start crying.
I think it would be hilarious to have a hidden puppet and then randomly bring it out during normal conversations. I have thought of doing such, but not to the point of seeking a puppet.
However, I find such offbeat / unexpected things to be the best comedy in the world.
