Replacement batteries can be self installed, not that big of a deal. Can be had depending on model and capacity for anywhere from 25 to 40 dollars.

They are found at http://www.macsales.com, whom I recommend, I have multiple dealings with them and have always been pleased.

They carry batteries for 1G 2G and 3G
