I agree, Lincoln was an exceptional leader. Especially when you consider that he was pretty much a racist himself. That did not stop him from realizing the importance of keeping the union together and doing what was necessary to accomplish it. He knew that the war was really about state's rights and also that slavery's days were numbered.
