I read The Lord Of The Rings when I was a kid and have reread it many times since.
Terry Pratchett and his Discworld series of books is hilarious. I have 13 of them. I like the mix of comedy and fantasy. They're a fuckin' good laugh.
Michael Moorcock - Been reading his books since the mid 70's. I Identify with his tortured, twisted, Evil/Good Elric character.
The sword and sorcery books tend to follow a formula and I've gone off them in the last couple of years as they are so predictable. E.g. The world is in danger from a nameless evil - A party of heroes is gathered together - Said heroes run around stabbing people with their swords - The evil is vanquished, only to return in the next banal trilogy of tripe. Ho hum. Same old shit.
Kim Stanley Robinson - The Mars books. I liked them.
Just for a complete change of pace I've cracked open Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol again.
