Well, I reject the idea that religion and sex are mutually exclusive or do not go well together. "Religion" and the way in which many Americans approach religion are not necessarily the same thing. In fact, I believe that what goes on in the bedroom can be quite the religious experience under proper circumstances.
I have read of approaches to religion, even in the framework of Christianity, in which masturbation, contraception, pre-marital sex, etc are all insignificant occurances. I see no reason why "religion" must entail anything in particular, good or bad, with regards to sexuality. It's all a matter of perspective.
