I call shenanigans on the law then. Unless it's changed in the past 50 years or so, I know that FDR married his cousin, and it was well-known. If it were against the law, I'm sure he'd have been impeached/arrested/whatever. The increase in chance of birth defects, et cetera is minimal outside of one's immediate family. There are other factors that far outweigh those involved with one's extended family.
