No no, you misunderstand me. Lord of the Rings is great. It's mostly the
rest of fantasy that is tripe. Both formulaic and derivative.
I've yet to read a fantasy book that comes anywhere NEAR Lord of the Rings in depth, plot and general all round entertainment.
