I start off with something like this:
Fill in between the guide lines, and then alternate inward/outward with another color at, usually, the same line thickness intervals. However, it's all judged by eye and I don't pay
great attention to the thickness. If I make a mistake on the thickness I just go with it. This one's on notebook paper, but the other one's on drawing paper. It just depends whatever I have at hand when I feel the urge to draw these.
