Next Saturday May 17th is the Hanson Rod & Gun Club's 10th Annual Machine Gun Shoot in Hanson, MA (approx. 15-20 miles south of Boston). This is now the second largest organized shoot of its kind in the US. It runs from 9AM-6PM, admission is $6. Watching the show is free after that - shooting is not. There are several Class 3 vendors and owners who will have upwards of probably 100 different kind of automatic weapons up for rental, from submachine guns to assault rifles to belt-fed machine guns. They are not cheap, you buy ammo by the mag/belt (or individual round for the chalk rounds for the grenade launcher one guy had last year).
This year the weapons we'll have there for exhibition will be a Civil War cannon, a Quad .50, and a GE Minigun.
As an example magazines for shoulder arms run probably $20-$30 each, while a 50 round belt went for $30 and a 100 round belt was $50. There are some deals if you buy in quantity (3 mags for $50 for example). Shooters MUST be 21 or older. There are about 20 guns online at any given time, and the sound of 'em going at once is a joy to behold. Bring earplugs.
The procedes go to the Shiners Burn Institute. Refreshments and free parking are available. If anyone is interested PM me or contact me at
mopar_70sixer@yahoo.com and I will provide whatever info you need.
Last year I fired a Micro-Uzi, an HK-91 assault rifle and, the highlight of the day, 200 rounds from an MG-42. It's everything they say it is. The sound is like no other weapon, you KNOW when that puppy's firing. I highly advise stopping by if you can.
Here's some pics from last years show, when it rained like hell most of the day and was extremely cold to boot.
