The only thing that I can think of if the printer was hooked up to a hub and not directly to the pc not working, would be if it wasn't plugged into a powered USB hub.
Then again USB printers seem to have weird issues like this more then the old parallel port models... so if you have the option to use a parallel port/cable with your printer, that would be a workaround.
