Well real cameras can be made of plastic and have a red LED too.
But I know what you mean. The place where I work has a fake camera pointed at the back door. The best part is that even if it was real, it's mounted on the corner of the building in a way that you could easily walk up behind it and destroy the thing, completely unseen. I don't know why they even bothered.
