I'll definitely reiterate Clutch (Pure Rock Fury), Ministry (Psalm 69), and Machine Head (Burn My Eyes). Three amazing bands.
I'll add some more:
Carcass (Heartwork)
Napalm Death (mostly from 'Fear, Emptiness and Despair' and later)
Death ('Individual Thought Patterns' was their best but it all kicks ass)
these are on the death/grind side. The Carcass and Death albums have REALLY impressive guitar work. Masterpieces.
On the lighter side there is Faith No More. Damn fine band. Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger was a great metal album too. Dirt by Alice In Chains was great alternametal also. Corrosion of Conformity (Deliverance) is a great hard rock/metal band that is good for audiences that like loud guitars but nothing too hard. Deftones is cool too.
Flotsam and Jetsam is great for classic metal. Anything from Quatro and later (except Unnatural Selection) is great. Grip Inc. is cool too.
Damn I wish I could make you a mix cd of these bands. I'd know the perfect songs from each.
