The exception to this is when the expression or art supports the underlying goals of the regime, when it is typically coopted and made mainstream. The classic example is Modernist British poet Ezra Pound, who produced a LARGE volume of pro-Mussolini propaganda during World War II. One of his finest works, The Cantos, was produced, in part, in jail after he was charged with treason.
