Pushups are seen largely as a chest and shoulder exercise, but you can hit different body parts by varying the distance between your hands. If you spread plant your arms wide to left and right, you involve your back muscles as well as your chest. When your arms are at medium width, most of the emphasis is on the chest and delts. And if you do pushups with your hands placed close together -- hard to balance, I know -- you can hit the triceps pretty hard.
